The History of Palatine Shell Service:

The building known as 'Palatine Shell Service' has been in the downtown area of Palatine since 1969, when it opened up under the Shell Oil company as a gas station/repair shop. In 1972, Wisconsin native, Ron Appert, was hired on as a shop manager/ mechanic. In 1977, Ron purchased the building and grew a loyal customer base through dedicated service, honest answers, and top quality repairs. Ron's son, Teddy, was born in 1985, followed by Ronnie, in 1987. Just over a decade later, the two boys started helping out around the shop—pumping gas, cleaning bays, and assisting customers—with Ronnie standing on a milk crate to reach the cash register.

In 2006, the village of Palatine widened the intersection between Palatine and Plum Grove Rd., reducing the number of gas pumps available on the property. At this time, Palatine Shell Service left the gasoline business altogether to focus solely on automotive repairs. While both Teddy and Ronnie spent time away at college, they'd return to the shop in-between classes and on summer break, learning more about the family business each year.

In December of 2019, after nearly 50 years of service, Ron Appert retired, leaving the business under the care of his two sons. Teddy and Ronnie Appert, together with their longtime technicians Dino Karlos, Juan Banuelos, and Tom Stowell, have a combined history of serving the Palatine and surrounding communities for the past 40 years.
